Dwight Lyman Ryther Moody was born and raised in this house in Northfield, Massachusetts, the 6th child of Edwin and Betsy Moody. Returning to Northfield an older man with a religious fervor, he went on to found first the Northfield School and then Mount Hermon. He built his own home next this one to be near his aging mother, who raised him and his five siblings herself. He had a sun parlor built onto the west side of the old homestead, giving his mother restful views of the river and western hills.
