Will Hutchins, the driving force behind the Deerfield Arts and Crafts Movement in the early 20th century, pushed to improve the products of its members in every way possible. With this program, he hoped to teach some of the basics of color theory, hoping that his pupils would add to the traditional range they were using. By improving the use of color, they would transform their ordinary arts into extraordinary works and would be more satisfying and demand higher prices.
