Taken by an unidentified photographer about 1900 in an area around Deerfield, Massachusetts, this picture shows men and women in their "street" clothes posing in a woodland setting. The photographer posed these formally dressed men and women among the trees to make them appear as if they were taking a walk. All are dressed in the fashion of the early 20th century, the women in hats and floor-length dresses and coats, which seem more appropriate for a walk down a paved sidewalk than through the birch trees of the woods.
