Sympathizers of the Regulators were still active in Northfield during April and May, 1787. Toward the end of May, word was received that the Regulators might come into town to raid the commissary and take prisoners of some of the inhabitants. Both the alarm list and the train band were called to arms and detached to various parts of town. Parties of armed men were found on both sides of the Connecticut River (Northfield is situated on both sides) but soon disbanded. The information was coming into Northfield from the town of Winchester, which is the town directly north, just over the border in New Hampshire.
