This 1953 newspaper article from the Greenfield Recorder-Gazette in Greenfield, Massachusetts, describes the history of the Parts Manufacturing Company of Greenfield, Massachusetts. Involved in the production of hardened and ground steel parts made to precision requirement, the company was founded in 1940 by selectman Herbert M. Darling, after working as a gage supervisor at the Greenfield Tap & Die Corporation. A skilled mechanic with enthusiasm for his trade, Darling established the company with three employees in 1940, which grew to 35 employees by 1953. He also authored numerous articles for technical trade magazines. The company's products were used in textile and glass making machinery, machine tools, aircraft engines and miscellaneous machine equipment.
