This article reports that 866,392 people emigrated from England in the ten years from 1837 to 1846. That number included many people from Ireland. The estimate that between 200,000 and 300,000 people would leave Ireland in 1847 resulting from the second year of the potato famine in 1846. Approximately 37,000 Irish arrived in Boston that year.
