The Memorial Hall Museum in Deerfield, Massachusetts, opened in 1880. It was the first museum in the United States to implement the new and exciting concept of creating "period" rooms to display its collection to the public. The museum's founders arranged artifacts in spaces that suggested how the original owners might have used such items. In this case, the museum arranged early furniture to give visitors a look at an "old bedroom."
