Elizabeth Brooks Fuller, the daughter of George Spencer and Mary Williams (Field) Fuller, was painted by her uncle, Augustus Vincent Tack, when she was four years old. Tack exhibited this painting at the sixty-third exhibition of the Boston Art Club in 1901. Later that year, Tack exhibited the portrait at the Old Home Week Exhibition of Arts and Crafts in Deerfield, Massachusetts, where it received critical acclaim: "the delightful picture of little Elizabeth is one that the visitor dwells on longest. It is a really ideal picture of childhood, 'moving about in worlds not yet realized,' as Wordsworth says in his great ideal poem of the child."
