Edward Allen had been married for nearly forty years when he died in December 1696. His wife had died in June of that same year. Eleven children survived the parents, ages 37 to 11. The livestock - horses, sheep, swine - inform us that Mr. Allen was a farmer. The presence of a "loome and tackling," and "new cloth, yarn, and wool" let us know his occupation was weaver. The household goods are few: beds, bedding, kitchen pots, kettles, and hooks, earthen platters, a warming pan, and a candlestick. Mr. Allen owned two guns, pewter, and a modest number of tools for a total of 257 pounds, 7 shillings. His land and buildings comprised more than half the total at 150 pounds.
