The Chinese Export Porcelain dishes (2 teacups with saucers, 2 coffee cups, cream pitcher, sugar bowl, and 2 cookie plates) were used for serving tea and coffee. Several of the pieces are damaged and have been repaired, which speaks of their importance to the owners. Porcelain wares from China were expensive and exotic in the 19th century. This tea set was owned by Rhoda Smith of Northfield, Massachusetts, who married Henry Bardwell of Deerfield, Massachusetts, in 1807.
