At the time of the diagram (c.1829) John Wilson was probably living in a house on Lot 17, at the south end of the main street of Deerfield, Massachusetts. His orchard, planted to the back, or west, of the lot behind the house, consisted of twenty-six fruit and nut trees. Dominated by apple varieties for eating, cooking and for cider, the orchard also contained a catalpa tree at the far southwestern edge of the plot, a hop tree, a Madeira nut tree, and various other fruits.
