This cast iron pot belonged to Aaron Denio (1704-1780), son of Abigail (Stebbins) de Noyon who was taken captive in the 1704 Raid on Deerfield, Massachusetts. Just months before that attack of 1704, Abigail Stebbins (1687-1740) married a French trader, Jacques de Noyon. The two, along with other members of the Stebbins family, were taken to New France and settled in Boucherville. One of their children, ten-year-old René de Noyon, visited his grandfather, John Stebbins(1647-1724), in Deerfield, Massachusetts, and was induced to stay. His grandfather renamed him Aaron Denio and in 1876, his descendants donated this pot to Memorial Hall Museum so that his story would be preserved.
