Wyandot (Huron) ceremonial moccasins like these from around 1850 were sold, along with mittens and bags, at Niagara Falls as part of the tourist economy. They are leather moccasins beaded with multi-colored glass beads on the toe and a glass bead scallop pattern on the cuffs. Moccasins of this type were made expressly for sale as tourist items. Shoes like these were a traditional item of dress, used by Native peoples for centuries.
