Seated in his library, playing the cello, is Edward (1828-1911) Hitchcock of Amherst, Massachusetts. The photograph by the Allen sisters highlights one of Mr. Hitchcock's talents inherited from his father, Edward Hitchcock (1793-1864). The son also inherited a love of science and, like his father, taught at Amherst College.
