This promotional picture was from the 1910 silent film, "Ononko's Vow," which was filmed in Deerfield by Edison Films, one of the largest makers of movies at the time. The movie was written by Herbert Streeter of Greenfield, Massachusetts, a promoter and theater owner. For five days in March, 1910, a film company came from New Jersey, the company's headquarters, to Deerfield, something that attracted crowds of spectators. In this scene, Ononko, the son of an Indian who saved a Deerfield man during the Bloody Brook battle of 1675, follows through on his father's vow by saving the son of that man. He has led him and his young wife to the "edge of settlement" - back to Deerfield - and to safety.
