Clad in a dressing gown, Edward (1828-1911) Hitchcock is photographed playing his cello by the Allen sisters of Deerfield, Massachusetts. Mr. Hitchcock graduated from Amherst College in 1849 and stayed on to teach hygiene and physical education. Like his father, Edward Hitchcock (1793-1864), he was an accomplished musician.
