label levels:

Traveling bags, or valises, were made of leather, of cardboard, or of fabric. This colorful example was made of wool carpeting, and so was referred to as a "carpet bag." Large enough, 14" by 22," to hold several day's worth of clothing, it was lightweight and the contents could be secured by turning a key in the metal lock. The leather handles made it easy to carry.
