Jemima Jones, a Yankee girl from Jimtown, who personates a witch,

Tom Pinkerton, a farmer with an impediment in his speech, who pursues the even tenor of his way

Sarah Slope, a poetic domestic who aspires to the theatrical profession,

SYNOPSIS.

ACT I

Jemima’s mistrust; her little scheme. Courting by mail. The old

 

maid’s mistake. Jonah’s perplexities and escape Jeremiah’s dilemma

 

The witch. "Beware."

ACT II

Bolivar’s oil craze. Invoking the witch. "I am here!" Bolivar’s

 

terror. Courting under difficulties. The old maid’s resolve. "Jonah

 

is gone, I’ll hold on to Jeremiah."

ACT III

Jeremiah strikes for freedom. The old maid’s despair. Jeremiah and

 

Sarah. The Witch’s revenge. "I am Jemima Jones!" Jonah captured

 

and the Old Maid happy. Jeremiah pardoned. The triple betrothal.

 

Jemima herself again. "She’ll scare us no more as the red witch of

 

Bender."
