At the end of the 19th century, agriculture began to become more professional and competitive. The Eastern States Exposition and county fairs gave farmers a chance to gain recognition for superior animals and other products. Little Meadow Defendress, a pedigreed pig, was owned by Arthur Ware Ball of Deerfield, Massachusetts. His farm and house was next to the site of the Old Indian House. The house, which is known as the Moors House, was built in 1848--the same year the Old Indian House was torn down.
