Hampshire ss The Commonwealth of Massachusetts

To the Sheriff of our County of Hampshire his Under
Sheriff or Deputy Greeting

Whereas Thomas Ivers Esqr our Treasurer has Certified
to our Court of General Sessions of the Peace within &
for our said County of Hampshire that he has transmitted
to the Select Men or Assessors of the Town of Buckland
in our county aforesaid the Tax Act made in the Year
1782. for raising Fifteen hundred Men, together with
his Warrant to them directed for assessing the Sum of
Seventy-four pounds One shilling & Eight pence for one
Man deficient
being their Proportion of the said Tax.
And that the Select Men or Assessors have neglected to
make Return of their Doings thereon as by Law required.
And praying our said Court to take the Matter into their
Cognizance and proceed thereon according to Law ---
These are therefore to require You that without Delay
You Summon the Inhabitants of Buckland, that at the
next Court of General Sessions of the Peace to be holden
at Northampton in and for our said County on the Second
Tuesday of February next: they Shew Cause if any they
have why our said Court should not Imediately proceed
as the Law directs to appoint Assessors to assess the Tax
aforesaid and Collectors to Collect the same Hereof
You may not fail and make return of this Writ &
your Doings therein unto our Court aforesaid Witness
Joseph Hawley Esqr at Springfield the fifteenth day
of January in the Year of our Lord seven hundred
& Eighty-five.
