The artist, George Fuller, was 61 years old in this photograph taken in a studio in Boston. In a 3-piece suit and with a full white beard he sits facing the camera head-on. Fuller was a farmer in Deerfield, Massachusetts, who had a lifelong love for painting. By 1876 he had a show of his work in Boston and in 1880 was elected a member of the Society of American artists. At the time of his death in 1884, he was at the height of his career as an artist.
