-The public schools are closed until further notice on account of the influenza
epidemic. It is noticeable that the school children are not running about in
droves on the streets during the unscheduled holiday which would seem to indicate
that their parents are keeping the youngsters at home and away from possible
sources of contagion, though measles and the grip have a lot of victims among
those of school age. The various churches and Sunday schools of the village
were also closed Sunday.
-The present epidemic of influenza is keeping a few available doctors on the
jump day and night. With Dr. Leary and Dr. Messer both unable to practice, the
two remaining Turners Falls physicians are unable to respond to all demands
made for their services. The Farren hospital corps of nurses has been badly
crippled by the disease- though the situation there is improving. Everybody
is praying for better weather, when it is thought the cases of illness will
diminish.

It states that the schools and churches are closed and that it is very noticeable that children are not out playing. This indicated that they were being kept at home, away from other people. The article also comments about the effect of the epidemic on the local doctors, nurses and hospital and that everyone is hoping for better weather so the illness would subside.
