Weddings were typically small affairs for most Americans in the early nineteenth century. The ceremony was often performed at home, and a honeymoon trip was unlikely. This photograph of a twentieth century wedding party taken around 1920 shows how weddings changed by the turn of the century. They had changed into more expensive, fancy events that included a white gown and flowers for the bride, and assistants for both the bride and groom. Wedding trips were more common, as well and Niagara Falls was a popular destination.
