Margaret C. Whiting (1860-1946), posed here with her hair in an elaborate late-19th century arrangement and wearing a high-fashion silk dress of the times with leg-o-mutton sleeves, ruffles, and a high neck. She co-authored "Wild Flowers of the Northeast" with fellow artist Ellen Miller in the year this photograph was taken. They founded the Deerfield Society of Blue and White Needlework in Deerfield, Massachusetts, the following year in 1896.
