The popularity of historical pageants in the early twentieth century shows interest in an earlier time. This photograph of a pageant in Deerfield, Massachusetts, was taken on a hot summer day. It captures the sharing of history by the audience and the presenters. The distance between the performers and the audience limited how much performers could speak but music and pantomime served to strengthen the dramatic effect.
