Stephen West Williams was a writer as well as a respected doctor. In addition to an active medical practice in Deerfield, Massachusetts, he gave and wrote speeches on medical subjects including one on medical law. He was also interested in the Williams family history and wrote a history of the family as well as this biography of what was, perhaps, the most famous member of the family, the Rev. John Williams (1664-1729). Reverend Williams was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts, and came to Deerfield, on the frontier, when he was 22 years old. He was carried to Canada in 1704, returned 2 years later and continued preaching. The Reverend Williams served the people of Deerfield until his death in 1729.
