Many Americans wished to bring back and save historic handicrafts at a time when more and more things were being factory produced. This article by Mary Allen identified Deerfield, Massachusetts, as a pioneer in the Arts and Crafts Movement sweeping the nation at that time and it praised the Deerfield Industries. Mary Allen was a leader in early artistic photography with her sister Frances and played an important role in both Deerfield's Arts and Crafts Movement and Colonial Revival.
