shire wthin ye Province of ye Massachuset Bay in New Engld am Holden
& stand firmely Bound & obliged by these pesents unto John Pynchon
of Springfeild in Hampshr aforesd Esqr In ye ful sum of Twelve
Pounds current Money of New England to be pd unto ye sd John
Pynchon Esqr his heires executors administrators or assignes: To
the True Paymt whereof I bind my selfe my heires executors &
administrators firmely by these pesents
The condition of this obligation is such That If ye above
Bounden John Hawkes his heires executors administrators or assignes Doe
wel & truly pay or cause to be pd unto ye above named John Pynchon
or to his heires executors administrators or assignes in Springfeild the
ful sum of sixe Pound, in current Money of New Engld at
or before ye 26th day of March wch will be in ye year of or Lord
one thousand seven hundred & Two wthout fraud or further delay
then this above writ obligation to be void & of noe efect, else to
abide in ful force vertue & power In Testymony hereof I have
hereunto set my hand & seale in Springfeild this 9th day of March 1698/9

On the 17th of May 1714, John Hawks (1643-1721) has discharged his debt to Col. John Pynchon. The promissory note is then canceled, as witnessed by three residents: John Holyoke, Nathanell Mun, and John Allen. The debt is paid to the executor of Colonel Pynchon's estate, Eliezer Hawks.
