Att a Legal town Meeting in Deerfield of ye inhabitants Met
on ye 9th day of August 1728 Cpt Thos Wells was Chose Moderater
at sd meeting they voted to hire a gramer School master from ye 15th of
Octr to ye first of Apr Next Ensuing
At ye same Meeting they voted ye Bridget Bernard Shall have
[] Shillings pr week for keeping School from ye time she began
[ ] ye 15th of Octr next
at ye same meeting they voted to give Liberty to all ye []
to procure School dames to teach their Children and that they shall
have of ye town for wages 3d pr week for Each Schollar they teach
from this time to ye 15th of Octr Next

on ye 17th of Septr 1728 Ebenezer Shelden Moderater
At ye same meeting they voted to
open their Common field on ye second day of Octr next
at Sun an hour high at night
ye above writen was voted Affirm. Tests Ebenezer Shelden Modreter
Att a legal town meeting in Deerfield ye inhabitants
thereof Met on ye 25th day of Octr 1728 Capt Thos Wells Mod[erater]
at ye Same Meeting they voted to build a Meeting house
and that it shall be set up and ye outside of sd house to be
covered in ye year 1729 at ye change of sd town in sd year
at ye Same Meeting they voted that sd house shall be 40
foots in width and 50 foots in lengths
At ye same meeting they voted that Cpt Thos Wells John Catlin
Deacon Samll Childs Lut Timothy Childs & Doctr Thos Wells
Shall be a Comtee to provide Work men and all nessesaries
for ye building sd house and to see that it be done
seesonably
at ye same meeting they voted that Joseph Mitchel
May Enjoy his shop in ye place where it stands
till ye town orders it to be moved
ye above written votes were voted Affirmly Tests Thos Wells Moderater
at a legal town Meeting in Deerfield of ye inhabitants
Met on ye 11th day of Decembr 1728 Cpt Thos Wells Moderator
ye same meeting they voted to Erect ye meeting house which is
to be built next year, on ye highest part of that Nole between
ye sine post and Deacon Childs his shop ye East side of it to
range with ye front of ye west [ ] of homelots
ye same meeting they voted to Delay ye fixing ye place for
ye meeting house till next Spring
ye Same meeting they voted that ye price for days work done to ye
[ ] town this year shall be in ye sumer 3s: 0d and in ye fall 3s pr
diem and that ye price of a teams Days work shall be Equal with
a mans

The town clerk, an elected official, was responsible for taking notes at town meetings, which were usually held four times each year. Business transacted includes the hiring of a school mistress, plans for building a new meeting house, and the election of town officers. At the April 1729 meeting the town voted that the Select men "Shall provide on the Town Charge a sutable quantity of Drink and Cake to be spent at the Raising of the Meeting house."
