Handwritten by Emma L. Coleman, this petition requests that the Selectmen of Deerfield, Massachusetts, "locate the (trolley) track on the private land immediately adjoining the N.Y., N.H., and Hartford Railway." Miss Coleman argues that this location would preserve the beauty and the quiet of the street and prevent injury to the trees. When the trolley line opened in December 1901, the tracks were not on private land as she requested, but, instead, down the middle of the main street.
