Handwritten by Emma L. Coleman, this petition asks that the Selectmen of Deerfield, Massachusetts, "locate the (trolley) track on the private land immediately next to the N.Y., N.H., and Hartford Railway." Miss Coleman says that this location would keep the beauty and the quiet of the street and stop injury to the trees. When the trolley line opened in December 1901, the tracks were not on private land as she asked, but instead, down the middle of the main street.
