This blue teapot, part of a full dining and tea set, is marked "UNION" on the bottom. It was probably made by the Union Pottery in Durham, England, in the early years of the 19th century. Tea drinking was a popular activity in many homes in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. This teapot belonged to Caroline (Stebbins) Sheldon (1789-1865) of Deerfield.
