This wooden mug is a fancier style of the wooden dishes that most Americans owned and used in the 17th and early 18th centuries. Richer people ate from pewter and pottery bowls, plates and cups. A few could afford imported china. This wooden tankard lasted to the present day because the family that owned it passed it down as a family treasure from the 18th century.
