This wooden scientific tool, designed by Edward Hitchcock (1793-1864) when he was a young man and principal at Deerfield Academy, was set to the latitude and longitude of Deerfield. It allowed Hitchcock to tell when eclipses might be in the local area. He printed this information in almanacs that he wrote between 1814 and 1818.
