This drinking mug was typical of dishes made in England for the American market. Pewter, a mixture of tin, copper, bismuth, antimony, and sometimes lead, contained metals not found in this country. Therefore, it was shipped here from England and Europe and could be remade from used and broken pewter that was melted down and recast.
