Will Hutchins Manages Yale Plays.

Will Hutchins has been engaged to take entire charge of the production of the Yale University Dramatic Association. This exceptionally flattering offer was in part the result of Mr. Hutchins' friendship with many of the men of Yale, where he is a graduate. It had been hoped for some time to secure a Yale man to direct these dramatics, and recently when it became known that Mr. Hutchins had professional stage experience last spring, an offer was speedily made to him. Mr. Hutchins' work appealed to the association and advisory committee of the faculty, because he has taken his dramatics in a serious way, with the effort to handle the best that there is in the drama. He has close relations with members of the faculty, so that he will be able to make the work essentially a part of the college course.

Mr. Hutchins will make several trips to New Haven this month, for preliminary work, and will go down there to stay the last of November, when rehearsals begin. The company goes out for two weeks at Christmas, playing twice in New York, three times in Chicago, and at Rochester, Pittsburg, Wheeling, Columbus, Indianapolis, and elsewhere. Later they play a number of dates nearer home. The season ends early in February, but additional dates may perhaps be placed later, and the company usually gives a performance at Commencement.

Will Hutchins was an artist, playwright, director, teacher and lecturer who lived in Deerfield, MA, for several years. During his residence he became involved with the revival of traditional Arts and Crafts that was giving Deerfield a national name. He held courses on color theory, sketching from life and picture framing. His foray into theater began with the Harrow Theater, a community company featuring amateur actors from Deerfield and elsewhere. In 1909 he was granted a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Yale.
