Frances and Mary Allen were very good at art photography. Using natural lighting, they were great at making picture-perfect images of New England such as this one of Thomas Ashley and a dog friend on a snowy winter day around 1904. Tom Ashley was one of many Deerfield, Massachusetts, children who modeled for the Allen sisters. He later died in France in World War I; the whole town was upset about the loss of this popular and promising young man.
