Cornelius Kelley was a blacksmith in Deerfield, Massachusetts, in the early twentieth century. This sign hung outside his shop. As demand from farmers for traditional blacksmithing services such as shoeing horses and mending farm equipment became less, Kelley began crafting wrought iron art objects for decoration as part of Deerfield's arts and crafts movement.
