John Wells, who died at age 54 in 1692, left no will. The court then needed to divide his property and land. They gave the widow her "thirds" of the "Moveables free of debt." It was common for the widow to get a third of the property and to be allowed to live on it as long as she pleased. This is noted. Moveables are the household goods, that is, everything except land or buildings. The rest is then divided out among the children. The eldest son only, got a double portion.
