Farm for Sale

THE subscriber offers for sale the Farm where he now dwells, situate in the village called the Plumb Trees, 3 miles southeast of Sunderland meeting house, on the county road leading from Sunderland to Amherst, and only two miles from Connecticut River. Said Farm contains about 150 acres, consisting of a suitable proportion of mowing, tillage and wood land, is well watered, having two good wells of excellent water : a never failing stream runs through the Farm, and another stream annually overflows the mowing land, leaving a rich coat of manure thereon. There is a good two story dwelling house, two barns, and other out buildings on said premises, with a good apple orchard, and a sugar orchard, which, perhaps, is not excelled by any in the state, and it is situated within forty rods of the dwelling house, with a convenient sugar house and other apparatus necessary and convenient for manufacturing sugar attached thereto, and 1000 weight annually can easily be made therefrom.

Broadsides, sheets of paper printed on one side only, were popular methods of advertising in the 18th and 19th centuries. They were posted on tree trunks, in taverns, and in other public places to reach as wide an audience as possible. This broadside extols the virtues of Mr. Hubbard's 150-acre farm in Sunderland, Massachusetts, complete with house, two barns, and other outbuildings including a sugar house with the apparatus for making sugar (maple sugar). It is dated December 13. 1819.
